17 Common Dim Sum Dishes And Their Calorie Count

( This post was written by Chris of odyb.net, whose blog focuses on health, fitness and food. He just couldn’t resist the golden opportunity to garner some temporary glamor from Miss Chan. =P )

Yum yum. Super duper delicious dim sum. One of the most famous Chinese food type in the world. It’s something like what Sushi is to the Japanese or what Tom Yam is to the Thais. It’s pretty pricey but I love it. So does a lot of people around the world. It’s best when taken hot and fresh. But most people do not really care about the calories that they put in. It’s like, as long as it is delicious, I’ll just take it.

Anyways, here’s a friendly reminder on calories in some of the more known common dim sum items. This piece of information would be pretty useful to weight watchers alike. All items are readjusted to 100g for easy comparison. This list is not really complete as dim sum types vary throughout the globe. Enjoy. =)

Oh thank you thank you! I eat dim sum once a month with my book club and I never know how to plan the rest of my day’s diet in order to compensate for the amount of grease I’ve ingested! Seriously, I like dim sum, but it’s not worth getting sick (or fat!) for.

So now I can plan which items to eat, and how much. This is so helpful!

Ok, that’s great that you have some of my favourites there. However, all these calorie counts are per 100g and not by per portion… I just know when I go back to Hong Kong to see my family they’re going to try to stuff my face again like they always do (it really is a battle every time) - short of bringing a calculator and a set of scales with me to the restaurant, can you give an idea on how many calories per serving size is, so I can mentally work out how many of each item I can have, and if I need to have a half portion on some items if I want more variety?
